How To Get The Best Out Of Your Church Services

Written by Oyin Oluwatosin Emmanuel

Every first day of the week is day that has been set aside for us all to go to Church. Some of us go during weekdays also while most people go only on Sundays and some do not even go at all. If you fall under the category of people who do not go at all, I'll advise that you start this Sunday, the Bible says we should not forsake the gathering together of the brethren and you should obey. Remember, the church is the gathering together of the brethren not the building. The Church is the ground and pillar of truth. Go for service today and make a commitment.

Now, a lot of folks go to church and just go as a tradition. Yes, it is a good tradition, one that should be kept but it's beyond just a tradition. Services in church/ church programs are specially designed for us by God and each service or meeting has it's own unique purpose. However, the general purpose can be found in Ephesians 4 verse 11 - 13. Read below;

"11: And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12: For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ" (KJV)

God has given us Pastors, Prophets, Teachers etc for the perfecting of the saints- that is you (if you are born again) and I, for the work of the ministry and for the edifying (building up) of the body of Christ (which also includes you and I). So when we go to church, the teachings, the prophecies and everything done there is for us. It is to perfect us, to train us for the work of the ministry which every Christian has been called to (the work of the ministry is another days topic). So we should go to church with a mindset that we are not just fulfilling a religious obligation but we are being trained for our future and to get something that has eternal impact in our lives.

Another reason we go to church is because Jesus showed us the example. It is recorded in the Bible how he went to the synagogue several times in his days. So if the Master himself did not take the assembling of the brethren lightly, we also should be good followers and do the same.

Now that we've discussed briefly reasons why we must go to church, I'll share with you some tips on how to get the best of your Church services.

Always get prepared before the service. Don't ever find yourself caught unawares when it is time for service. Always prepare. Prepare your dress, prepare your writing materials (it is important to take notes during services) before the time for the service. Also prepare prayerfully.

Be expectant. Never go for any service without expecting to go back home blessed.

Go early. Get to church early. Sit in a convenient place. In most churches, the ushers directs you, make sure you follow the usher's instruction.

Participate in every segment. Partake in every session of the service, be it the worship, prayers, teaching or any other session. Do not think that a part of the service is not meant for you.

Listen attentively and avoid distractions. Do not allow your phone or any other thing distract you. You can make your phone silent or activate the flight mood.

Take notes. As you listen attentively, also write down as much as you can especially during the teaching segment.

Give an offering. Well, I'm just discovering how important this is too and I'm working on making sure I have an offering for each service. You should also make sure you have an offering for each service you attend; it's your demonstration of your faith in God and Thanksgiving for all you've received in the service.

Well, I have to drop my pen at this junction, it's the limit for my post. However from now on, we'll be having Super Sessions with me two Sundays in a month on this blog. Remember to put these things to work.
